Participate In a Building Energy Assessment
Chugach Electric is soliciting commercial facility customers to participate in a research project on
energy savings assessments. Project participants will receive valuable analysis of their energy
use, including specific recommendations for reducing energy consumption. These assessments
normally could cost thousands of dollars, but because this is a research project, there is no cost
to participate.
The research project, dubbed “Watt Busters,” is funded in part by a grant from the Alaska Energy
Authority. Altogether, 30 commercial sites will be monitored: 20 from the Chugach service area
and 10 from the ML&P area.
All 30 assessments must be completed by the end of August and slots are filling up quickly.
Here’s what is involved:
Representatives of Chugach Electric and Control Contractors, Inc. (CCI), our contractor
in the project, will meet with you on-site to gather data and determine where to place the
monitors.
Up to 10 monitors will be placed at your site, depending on the size of the building.
They’re small (6"h x 5"w x 4"d) and unobtrusive. The monitors will be in place for up to
one week, gathering data on electricity and gas use, HVAC, air quality and CO2.
The data is collected, analyzed and compiled into a detailed report, which we will discuss
with you. This report includes information on low cost fixes as well as ones that would
require a return on investment.
In early September, we will also ask you to participate in a brief follow-up survey.
This is a rare opportunity to have a professional energy assessment conducted at no cost.
Please let me know ASAP if you want to participate. Ten of the 30 slots are already taken, so
you’ll need to act quickly. Please contact me if you have any questions or if this email should be
directed to someone else.
Thank you and I hope you will join us in this valuable research project.
