SF Oe FROM: Stassel, Steven TO: Denig-Chakroff, David DATE: 02/22/93 TIME: 9:13 AM cc: Gray, Brian Petrie, Brent Stassel, Steven SUBJECT: Legislative Requests PRIORITY: ATTACHMENTS: I talked with Ms. Berg of Senator Adams office on Friday and explained that I had been to Shishmaref at the request of the Mayor to look into the feasibility of waste heat. The AVEC plant is about 10 to 15 feet from the "old" City water plant and within about 150 feet of three additional City buidlings, and the BSSD school is about 250 feet from the power plant. The "old" WIP receives its water from the "new" WIP at the other end of town. I have requested information from PHS to determine if we could provide low-level waste heat from the "old" WIP to the "new" WTP using the existing water lines between the two buildings. If so, this could be a very low cost project for the fuel savings realized. I estimate that about 8,000 to 10,000 gallons of heating fuel could be saved from a waste heat system in Shishmaref depending on the amount of heat AVEC uses for their own buildings. I also explained that AEA does not have funding to purchase materials to construct waste heat systems, but we have in the past provided RTA type assistance to help communities (such as Akiak) install a waste heat system. I told Ms. Berg that I would complete my cost estimate for a waste heat project to the City buildings by mid-April. Ms. Berg informed me that Senator Adams office would support a waste heat system project in Shishmaref, and that it did not matter if the waste heat went to the City or the School as long as the project is feasible. She also liked the idea of the matching contribution idea like we used in Akiak. She asked if we had any information on the feasibility of a waste heat project in Shishmaref to provide heat to the school. I told her we were looking it but would have to get back with her on the details. What is the status of their RTA request. Do we have anything we can fax her? If not yet, whoever (Steve?) is most familiar with this should call Marla and fill her in on what we know to date. You should try to get in touch with her today, since she is meeting with the school district soon (I don't recall if she is meeting with them today or the first of next week). | | a AQh ——---—--} | cidade bic ah cena beheld aad cele mahal fed a a HlgsZ wns pte HIE ty HBR commen BR est 1 Fs eA) [ wane? | Caan 3 1%, we ULEL YN $s | | I LL A br eel oe oe eo a eae eee as seyt 3/1) OD NY MB 162-GsDe 3-1 SL fk 0F704GcB ($5 GPHe_ qS ceo BM ye a ext Sot pares "We! oy ea ) Trale = ae << as < ww IN o/t tlé pcre?
