Subject: Minto Waste Heat Availability
Dear Gary:
Alaska Village Electric Cooperative is in the process of
installing two remote radiators and connecting all_ three
generating units to a common cooling system at Minto. At this
particular location AVEC shares a portion of a common building
which also houses the City’s water plant. On the surface, this
appears to be an excellent location for the utilization of waste
heat for space heating of the water plant facility and also
freeze proofing the potable water supply. Any funds saved by
the City through reduced heating expenses could possibly be used
toward payment of their electric bills. A more indepth review
of this installation may be in order to actually verify if a
waste heat recovery and utilization system might be as cost
effective as it initially appears.
Sincerely, Wee ¢ 4A
