Box 190869 Anchorage, AK 99519 Dear Ms. Rogers, As suggested in our recent telephone conversation I would like to request some technical assistance for several of the villages I am working with. Listed below are the villages and a brief description of the assistance needed. Golovin: The City of Golovin has recently moved their diesel generators into the new city garage. Included in that move are plans to install remote radiators and waste heat recovery equipment to provide heat for the garage and the adjacent city office building. The fuel consumption for the city office is approximately 27@@ gallons/yr and the new City garage should be no more than that of the office building. Fuel consumption for the diesel generators for 1986 is estimated to be around 42,@@2 gallons/yr. It appears a majority of the waste heat would not be utilized with only these two buildings being connected. The washeteria is located across the street from the new garage and the elementary school is directly behind the washeteria. Apparently there exists several heating loops which tie several of the school building together and could be used with the waste heat recovery system. White Mountains The City of White Mountain which awn and operates the diesel generators has plans to relocate the generators toa new location directly behind the school and next to the school’s generator building. The new location would be ideal for using the waste heat to supplement the schools heating demand. A new fishing lodge has been built and is several hundred feet directly above the school. Brevig Mission: The City of Brevig Mission is currently buying power from the school and retailing it to the residents of the village. Sveral years ago they purchased two generators to be used for generating their own electricity. No building was avaiable sca the generators have not been installed. This years request for appropriations includes a city garage which would house the generators, similiar ta Golovin’s operation. The school is presently utilizing the waste heat from their generators to supplement their heating needs of the schocal. Proper design and location of the City’s generators should make installing a waste heat recovery system very practical. Though the City is currently doing the billing for the electricity purchased from the school they have little experience in operating an electrical utility. With the proper assistance both in design and day to day operation hopefully many of the typical problems plaguing new electric utilities can be avoided. I have recieved letters from Golovin and Brevig Mission requesting technical assistance and recieved a verbal request from White Mountain. Please let me know when tentative dates can be set and I will inform the villages. If possible I will accompany Peter Hanson on these visits and make any travel ard sleeping arrangements necessary. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do from Nome. Sincerely, PAS Kebnyer Phil Kaluza CORRESPONDENCE DISTRIBUTION ACTION: Schuduli.
