Site: Hydaburg
Date: 3/5/86
Crew: Peter N. Hansen
Purpose of visit: Gathering of field data for waste heat study.
I checked in with Temsco Airlines at 7.30 a.m. and after some
delays I arrived in Hollis at approximately noon. A van from
Temsco Airlines brought me to Klawock, where I picked up the APA
truck from DOT's yard. After a bumpy ride I arrived in Hydaburg
at 3.30 p-m.
Here I met Mr. Bob Sanderson, Mayor of Hydaburg. Together we went
through the buildings in which he wanted waste heat recapture
equipment installed. We were also given access to the Alaska
Power and Telephone power plant, where I had a chance to look at
the technical feasibility of installing waste heat recapture
equipment.
Mr. Sanderson indicated that he would appreciate some help in
designing a waste heat recapture system for the City's power
Plant which supplies power to the new fish processing plant. This
plant utilizes to ea. 450 kw Cummins generator sets.
I promised Mr.. Sanderson that I would assist as much as possible
in the evaluation of a waste heat recapture system form both
power plants. Mr. Sanderson promised to supply all necessary data
as soon as possible.
I arrived back at the lodge in Klawock at 10.00 p.m. after an
exciting ride with a few technical problems with the APA truck.
