APA was established in June of 1967 as a unit of the Interior Department and became a unit of the Department of Energy on October 1, 1977, as provided under Public Law 95-91. APA reports to the Assistant Secretary of Energy, for Conservation and Renewable Energy. The APA headquarters are in Juneau, Alaska, with field offices at the two projects. Department Of Energy Alaska Power Administration P.O. Box 50 Juneau, Alaska 99802 August 30, 1982 FOREWORD: Alaska Electric Power Statistics 1960-1981 This is the seventh in a series of statewide electric power data summaries compiled by the Alaska Power Administration (APA). It continues the efforts by APA to provide a convenient and current reference source on Alaska power system data and trends in statewide electric power use. The report presents fairly complete data summaries through Calendar Year 1981. A summary of the statewide 1981 statistics indicates: Installed Capacity ° Total 2,064 MW oO Utility 1,374 (66.6%) 0 National Defense 205 ( 9.9%) 0 Industry and Misc. 485 (23.5%) 0 Total consists of ( 6.0% hydro) (53.4% gas turbine) (18.4% steam turbine) (22.2% diesel) ° Average annual growth of total since: 1960 7.9% 1970 9.5% 1975 10.0% 1980 5.4% Net Energy Generated 0 Total 5,210 GWH 0 Utility 3,285 (63.0%) 0 National Defense 495 ( 9.5%) 0 Industry and misc. 1,429 (27.4%) 0 Total consists of (11.5% hydro) (56.6% gas) (15.1% 071) (10.7% coal ( 6.1% other*) * Other = waste wood/oil.
