Alaska Electric Power Statistics 1960-1980
Alaska Power Authority ECO LIBRARY COPY 046 1960 - * ALASKA ELECTRIC. POWER STATISTICS: 1960-1980 SIXTH EDITION @ AUGUST 1981 RECEIVED SEP 23 1981 2 ALASKA POWER AUTHORITY ——— UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY ALASKA POWER ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY ALASKA POWER ADMINISTRATION The Alaska Power Administration operates, maintains, and markets power for Alaska's two Federal hydroelectric projects--the 30,000-kW Eklutna Project near Anchorage and the 47,160-kW Snettisham Project near Juneau. APA also conducts investigations of future water and power projects as well as studies of transmission and power system development, all in cooperation with other Federal, State, and local entities. APA was established in June of 1967 as a unit of the Interior Department and became a unit of the Department of Energy on October 1,:1977, as provided under Public Law 95-91. APA reports to the Assistant Secretary of Energy, for Conservation and Renewable Energy. ‘The APA headquarters are in Juneau, Alaska, with field offices at the two projects. ECO OUGC (AGO- 1920 Department Of Energy Alaska Power Administration P.O. Box 50 Juneau, Alaska 99802 August 26, 1981 FOREWORD: Alaska Electric Power Statistics 1960-1980 This is the sixth in a series of statewide electric power data summaries compiled by the Alaska Power Administration (APA). It continues the efforts by APA to provide a convenient and current reference source on Alaska power system data and trends in statewide electric power use. In this edition, the electric power data has been placed in a computer data base. It is APA's intention to publish this report each year building on the computer data base. The report presents fairly complete data summaries through Calendar Year 1980. A summary of the statewide 1980 statistics indicates: Installed Capacity—- ° Total = 1956 MW ° Utility = 1283 (65.6%) ° National Defense = 201 (10.3%) ° Industry and Misc. = 472 (24.1%) ° Total consists of 10 % hydro 64 $% gas turbine 8 % steam turbine 19 % diesel ° Average annual growth of total since: 1960 = 8.0% 1970 = 9.9% 1975 = 10.9% 1978 = 4.7% Net Energy Generated ° Total = 5097 GWH ° Utility = 3159 (62.0%) ° National Defense 497 ( 9.8%) ° Industry and misc. 1441 (28.3%) ° Total consists of 10.7% hydro ° 56.4% gas 17.0% oil 9.8% coal 6.1% other* *Other = waste wood/oil.
