O. BOX 50 JUNEAU. ALASKA 99802 IN REPLY REFER TO: 700 ALASKA ELECTRIC POWER STATISTICS 1960-1975 This is the fourth in a series of electric power data summaries compiled by the Alaska Power Administration. This is a continuing effort by APA to provide a convenient and current reference source on Alaska power system data and trends in statewide electric power use. This report presents fairly complete data summaries through Calendar Year 1975 plus some monthly statistics through May 1976 to indicate trends during the peak level periods of the 1975-1976 winter. The next previous edition carried data through 1973, so a look at changes that have occurred in 1974 and 1975 is pertinent. Estimated total electric energy generated statewide for CY 1975 is just under 2.3 billion kilowatt-hours, or 28 percent above the 1973 level. Installed capacity totals 1.3 million kilowatts, 29 percent above the 1973 levels. Some substantial increases in fuel and power costs are indicated. The data do not provide a clear basis for demonstrating effectiveness of the various energy conservation programs. We suspect that without the conservation efforts, Alaska energy requirements would have been even higher than they were. We know that, nationwide, electric energy con- sumption remained essentially stable during 1974 and 1975. Reasons for this include the conservation efforts as well as some serious economic problems. The data sources are indicated on the tables. These sources include the Alaska Public Utilities Commission, the Federal Power Commission, the Rural Electrification Administration, the Edison Electric Institute and statistics reported directly to APA from various utilities statewide. We appreciate the cooperation we have received from Alaska's electrical industry in compiling this report and will welcome any suggestions and corrections. YOUUTlOy, 2 ¢ ¢ G . Hid e % Robert J.
