It's purpose is to provide a regional overview of electric power statistics information on Railbelt utilities. The Railbelt encompasses Alaska's more populated communities, including Fairbanks, Anchorage, Seward, Homer and the Matanuska-Susitna Valley north of Anchorage. The southcentral map on page 29 shows the location of these communities. This year's report is divided into two sections--a section on 1986 power statistics, and a section covering data for the period 1976-1986. Generally, the 1986 portion provides more detailed, monthly information, while the historical section focuses on annual statistics. The report includes information on installed capacity, net generation, purchases and peak loads. Sales for resale, economy energy sales and marketing data are also included in the report. An updated retirement schedule for generator units is presented on pages 6-7. A number of Railbelt utilities are rural electric cooperatives. These include: Chugach Electric Association (Anchorage), Matanuska Electric Association (Palmer), Golden Valley Electric Association (Fairbanks) and Homer Electric Association (Homer). All of the Railbelt cooperatives are regulated by the Alaska Public Utilities Commission. Matanuska Electric Association, Homer Electric Association and Seward Electric System purchase the bulk of their power from Chugach Electric Association. Anchorage Municipal Light and Power, Seward Electric System and Fairbanks Municipal Utilities System are operated by municipalities. The latter two utilities are unregulated, while the former comes under the jurisdiction of the Alaska Public Utilities Commission. Two wholesale power producers are also discussed in this report. These include the federal Alaska Power Administration hydroelectric project, Eklutna (Palmer), and the Alaska Electric Generation and Transmission Cooperative (Soldotna). The latter is jointly-owned by Homer Electric Association and Matanuska Electric Association. Utility cooperation in preparing this report has been appreciated. Without the long hours of research and review, publication of this Supplement would not have been possible.
