I am writing this enthusiastic letter of support for Alaska Renewable’s proposed wind
projects. Renewable energy is a powerful tool in ensuring the health and safety of our planet
and of our communities, and I am excited by the prospect of increased wind energy in Alaska.
Our state would benefit in numerous ways from diversifying our energy resources and
economy. Not only would wind farms be less disruptive to the environment than the typical
extractive industry that exists here, but they will offer a powerful energy source and economic
boost to our state in a time when that is very needed.
Alaska Renewable’s ambitious plan to serve our state’s two largest population hubs,
Anchorage and Fairbanks, would be a gamechanger. Alaska is feeling the impacts of climate
change faster than other states and is struggling with some of the worst air pollution in the
country. Support for these projects would show that the health of our planet and our citizens is
a priority to The Alaska Energy Authority. I offer my absolute endorsement of these projects.
