CalWave looks forward to harnessing the vast and steady carbon-free power of ocean waves in Alaska, and we believe that wave energy will play a key part in Alaska’s energy future. This is particularly true in Southeast Alaska, and specifically in Yakutat, where energy costs are high and the wave resource is as strong as about anywhere else in the world. With these grant funds, we plan to conduct feasibility studies of the local wave conditions, ocean floor sediment composition, debris that may hinder the performance of a device, and marine species and ecosystems that may be put at risk. Beyond these feasibility studies, we look forward to completing a conceptual design of a system that could eventually satisfy a significant portion of Yakutat’s power demand. We look forward to further pursuing this project in order to bring the vast and steady carbon-free power of ocean waves to Yakutat. Sincerely, Marcus Lehmann CEO – CalWave Power Technologies
