HomeMy WebLinkAboutChef Round 14 Signatures_Resolutions RESOLUTION 2022-01 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING FUNDING FROM Alaska Renewable Energy Fund- Round 14 Naterqak Light Plant is requesting funds from AEA – REF Round 14 to be used to optimize the performance of our high penetration wind-diesel-battery system. Specifically, the funds will be used to complete and improve the battery installation and for advanced metering and monitoring for the community of Chefornak. WHEREAS, Naterqak Light Plant is the only electric power generation facility in the community of Chefornak and is owned by a 2nd Class City in the State of Alaska with a duly elected governing body authorized to act on behalf of its members; and WHEREAS, the City of Chefornak has appointed the board of directors for the Naterqak Light Plant to manage the utility as a local, unregulated, stand-alone grid serving the entire population of our community; and WHEREAS, for more than 20 years the City and Tribe have worked together to establish an energy system that reduces the cost of diesel fuel for purchased for our energy system; and WHEREAS, we have worked to design an energy system that combines natural energy resources available in Chefornak with technologies like wind turbines, battery storage, and wind-to-thermal heat storage by working with an Alaska engineering firm; and WHEREAS, Chefornak has been working with Federal , State and Regional agencies to successfully gain financial support for our energy system ; and WHEREAS, Chefornak has been awarded a US Dept of Energy Tribal Program grant of $844,164 which it is providing as in-kind match for our application to Alaska Energy Authority’s Renewable Energy Fund – Round 14, along with a cash match of $93,960 from Naterqak Light Plant. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE NATERQAK LIGHT PLANT REQUESTS FUNDING IN THE AMOUNT OF $325,000 FOR THE PURPOSE OF
