Dear Selection Committee,
On behalf of Eklutna, Inc., I am submitting this letter of support for the Native Village of
Eklutna’s (NVE) Eklutna Village Solar Project. I understand that NVE is applying for funding
through Alaska Energy Authority’s Renewable Energy Grant program to assess the viability of
solar energy development at the former Site One gravel quarry owned by Eklutna, Inc. Eklutna,
Inc. has pledge $7,500 as a funding match and initial use of our Site One property to conduct the
proposed feasibility study.
The Site One mining project closed in 2018. Since the closure, Eklutna, Inc. and NVE have been
exploring opportunities to redevelop the area with a view towards minimizing impacts on the
NVE. The other available site on Eklutna, Inc land is the Camp Mohawk site, which is a site
contaminated by the military, where suitable redevelopment is desired. Eklutna, Inc. and NVE
have a solid relationship with the utilities operating energy production facilities on nearby lands
provided to them by Eklutna, Inc.
In conclusion, I fully support the efforts of NVE in seeking funding to support a project that
provides a revenue source for NVE and the possibility of short-term and long-term employment
for shareholders living in the village. We believe reclaiming this former mining site with solar
arrays will be a source of a community pride and cornerstone for NVE’s cultural and
sustainability programs.
Sincerely,
Kyle Foster
Chief Executive Officer
