BOARD RESOLUTION 41299
REQUESTING AUTHORIZATION TO APPLY FO FUNDING THROUGH THE
ALASKA RENEWABLE ENERGY FUND (REF) ROUND 13
WHEREAS: Kotzebue Electric Association, Inc. (YEA) is a non-profit corporation in standing with the
State of Alaska, all of it lenders, and has met any and all of its tax obligation, and
WHEREAS: It is the desire of KEA to seek funding for support of renewable and other projects that lead
to reduction of diesel fuel usage such as wind, solar, storage, storage, geothermal and other projects, and
WHEREAS: KEA has set a goal of producing 50% of it electrical energy from renewable resources by
2025, and
WHEREAS: Increased fuel costs and environmental regulation issues have created dramatic cost increase
for the utility that have significantly contributed to the electric rates for our members, and
WHEREAS: The addition ow wind power, solar power, energy storage and power plant upgrades are
needed to achieve the goal of 50% renewable energy, and
WHEREAS: KEA commits to provide a $75,000 cash match and $25,000 in -kind match, to accomplish
the work, and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That Kotzebue Electric Association, Inc. Board of Directors hereby
authorizes the corporation to apply of funds from the Alaska Energy Authority Renewable Energy Fund,
and also authorizes General Manager/CEO Martin Shroyer and or his designee to represent KEA for the
purpose of applying for for funds from the Alaska Energy Authority Renewable Energy Fund for the final
design and permitting of a Community -scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
