To
Whom
It
May
Concern,
Greetings,
my
name
is
Zachary
Brown,
the
founder
and
executive
director
of
Inian
Islands
Institute.
Our
non-‐profit
organization
is
situated
at
the
Hobbit
Hole,
a
remote
property
on
the
Inian
Islands,
five
miles
to
the
north
of
Elfin
Cove.
Inian
Islands
Institute
fully
supports
Elfin
Cove’s
hydroelectric
future.
As
a
program
for
environmental
education,
research,
and
leadership,
we
believe
fervently
that
reducing
fossil
fuel
consumption
is
crucial
for
our
global
future.
All
communities,
no
matter
how
small
and
remote,
have
a
role
to
play
in
reducing
emissions
and
mitigating
climate
change
and
ocean
acidification.
Moreover,
we
at
Inian
Islands
Institute
recognize
that
Southeast
Alaska,
with
its
steep
topography
and
high
precipitation,
is
a
world
hotspot
for
hydropower
–
this
energy
source
makes
too
much
sense
to
ignore.
Remote
communities
such
as
Elfin
Cove
can
enhance
their
self-‐sufficiency
and
reduce
dependence
on
outside
resources
by
making
the
exciting
transition
to
hydroelectric
power.
The
Hobbit
Hole
property
is
powered
by
hydro,
as
are
Gustavus,
Juneau,
a
portion
of
Hoonah,
and
other
communities
of
northern
Southeast
Alaska.
It
is
time
for
Elfin
Cove
to
join
in
utilizing
this
wonderful
resource.
Thank
you
for
your
consideration,
