This letter is let you know that the Northwest Arctic Borough (NWAB) supports the proposal being
submitted by Kotzebue Electric Association Inc. for a 100 kW solar project in Kotzebue.
The Northwest Arctic Borough supports all projects that have the ability to reduce energy costs in
NW Alaska. It is our hope that this project will reduce the energy costs for our citizens in Kotzebue
and will lead to further expansion of renewable energy projects throughout our region.
The Northwest Arctic Borough also sees this project as one that fits within the Borough's land
planning criteria. The NWAB believes that the solar equipment being proposed will not adversely
affect environmentally sensitive resources (tundra, wetlands and wildlife), and in fact, KEA has
shown that the proposed action will result in very large and significant long-term environmental
benefits.
Energy costs are one that affects the survivability of our communities and we support this project
and are anxious to see it come on line as soon as possible.
