TDX utilizes all of the renewable energy generated, by implementing electric thermal devices to maximize energy savings. This concept creates highly controllable and sustainable renewable energy for remote communities, and provides financial relief to areas where the price of electrical power is exorbitant. FAST DISPATCHABLE LOADS • Examples include electric water heating or cooling (thermal storage devices), and water pumping. • Fluctuating excess renewable energy is dispatched by signals from the microgrid controller to heaters (thermal batteries) for building heat. When there is a lull of renewable energy, the microgrid controller sheds dispatchable loads so that renewable energy output equals electrical load demand. FLYWHEELS • Act as a sponge to absorb or supply 15-20 minutes of electrical energy which reduce diesel fuel consumption. Preliminary results: Increased diesel-off, wind-only operations time by >15%. • Reduces wind curtailment: Increased wind energy is utilized by the grid, decreasing reliance on diesel-powered generators. MICROGRIDS • Provide the platform necessary to control distributed dispatchable loads and integrated energy resourses in both grid connected and island modes. • System operates as a partial feeder, full feeder, and substation area microgrid. • Increases utility resiliency and reliability of service. 8 Statement of Qualifications 2015 POWER GENERATION PLANT AND ELECTRIC DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM Project Location: Deadhorse, Alaska • Client: Tanadgusix Corporation The TDX Power subsidiary TDX North Slope Generating, Inc. owns and operates the regulated electric utility located in Deadhorse, Alaska. The power generation assets includes state of the art natural gas fired solar turbines and reciprocating generating assets - for a total usable capacity of 28 megawatts. The rapid load growth at North Slope Generating motivated upgrades and retrofits to the utility’s existing generation capacity that paralleled growth in electricity demand, resulting in an investment of over $23 million in improvements, upgrades and retrofits. In 2014, the power plant expansion project netted an increase of 15 megawatts of generation capacity. Among the most extensive upgrades was the construction of an “arctic grade” prefabricated metal insulated building to house two highly fuel efficient Solar T70 turbines each rated at 7.5 megawatts. Ancillary equipment was also improved, including medium voltage 15kv switchgear with the capability for remote system monitoring, data recording and event logging. TDX Power operates multiple community regulated electric utilities, provides wholesale renewable power, and offers innovative renewable energy solutions for critical, must-run generation service in extreme environments. Power GenerationTDX POWER Statement of Qualifications 2015 9 Designed, managed installation, and now operates a 1-MW wind farm in Sand Point, Alaska. The system is comprised of two 500-kW Vestas V39 wind turbines and was designed to provide both wholesale power and to integrate with the existing islanded multi-diesel Sand Point utility (TDX owned Sand Point Generating, LLC). TDX Power designed, installed and operates one of the country’s largest and most reliable high-penetration wind-diesel power plants. Three 225-kW Vestas V27 wind turbine provide major generation. Twin 150kW Volvo diesel generators feed power into the facility’s AC bus and can work independently or together with the wind turbine. Heat recovery from the diesel generators is used to provide space heat. The power plant is intertied with the City of St. Paul utility, presenting ample opportunity for TDX Power flywheel and microgrid developments to mutually benefit the city grid. Provides continuous 24/7 power plant operations and sustainment services at two of Raytheon’s remote AN/TPY-2 radar sites OCONUS, which are an integral part of the Ballistic Missile Defense System that is used to perform surveillance, interceptor track, in- flight data uplink/downlink, target classification/ typing/ identification, and intercept assessment. Responsible for construction through commissioning of the plant, TDX Power delivered a system that meets force protection requirements including hardened hemp shielding from electronic magnetic pulse. Process requirements included compliance with the Defense Contractor Management Agency and Defense Contractor Audit Agency, and providing program management using an Earned Value Management Systems compliant process. For this project, TDX Power became ISO 9000 compliant and implemented a quality assurance and quality control program supported by a team of experts. EngineeringTDX POWER BOEING Project Location: Fort Greely, Alaska Client: Tanadgusix Corporation “TDX POWER PROVIDED SUPERIOR ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT IN TURNING AROUND A DISTRESSED ASSET IN DEADHORSE, ALASKA.” - Vigo Anderson, Alaska Area Sales Manager, NC Power Systems Statement of Qualifications 2015 11 Designed and constructed a 225-kW power generation platform using a Vestas V27 wind turbine—the first for the U.S. Air Force’s Pacific theater and part of the EPA’s Green Power Partnership. TDX Power collaborated with the U.S. Air Force to conduct a feasibility study that involved developing a wind/diesel modeling and simulation software program and calculating the operationality and anticipated fuel savings. Principal design firm and general contractor for this remote wind turbine installation and power plant control system upgrade. Provided a state-of-the-art fuel storage and supply station to withstand St. Paul Island’s harsh subarctic, maritime environment. Designed with elaborate electronic quality and dispensing controls, overfill alarm functions, and water detection capabilities the system includes a visual and an audible alarm notification to the fuel system operator. The system provides critical fuel for the U.S. Coast Guard search and rescue helicopters, maintaining high fuel quality standards. Partner in front-end engineering and design (FEED) to design the electrical controls system for an inverter- based microgrid system for an intermediate-scale offshore wind turbine test platform. Renewable Energy SupportTDX POWER RENEWABLES SUPPORT ON GRANT-FUNDED PROJECTS Location: Nikolski, Alaska Client: Nikolski IRA Council Statement of Qualifications 2015 13 Teamed with the Tatitlek Corporation and the Tatitlek Village IRA Council to manage a Reconnaissance Study, Resource Assessment, and Feasibility Analysis to examine both the wind and hydro resources available to the Tatitlek. Tatitlek, located in northeastern Prince William Sound, is approximately 30 miles south of Valdez. The Renewable Energy Atlas of Alaska, and the AEA’s Draft Regional Wind Study projected that Tatitlek had an excellent wind resource. A promising hydro source was also in close proximity. TDX Power conducted site specific monitoring and feasibility studies to examine the available renewable energy resources. Conducted wind-resource reconnaissance, producing feasibility reports and a conceptual design of a proposed diesel power plant using one or more of wind, geothermal, and hydroelectric renewable energy resources. Anemometers were used at carefully chosen installation sites; a met tower was purchased with Alaska Energy Authority funds and shipped to Adak. After technical difficulty and severe storm damage, the tower was fixed and re-erected in order to complete the wind feasibility study. A hydro feasibility study indicates that hydro make be a good renewable option for Adak. Contracted to assess the existing diesel plant owned by the City of St. Paul electric utility; design and engineer modifications to integrate wind energy from the POSS Camp Wind Farm; design and engineer modifications to the controls at the POSS Camp Wind Farm to sell electricity to the City of St. Paul electric utility; and assess, engineer, and construct all required distribution line additions and upgrades.
