Bradley Evans, Chief Executive Officer
Chugach Electric Association, Inc.

Dear Mr. Evans:
On behalf of the Kenai Peninsula Borough, I am writing to express support for Chugach's grant
application to the Renewable Energy Fund for partial funding of the construction of the Stetson
Creek diversion project.
This project will provide multiple benefits to the region. It will add more renewable energy to
the grid by increasing hydropower production, boost the local economy during the 2-year
construction window and enhance salmon habitat. All of those things are important to the Kenai
Peninsula Borough and its residents.
At its peak, the work force is estimated to total 30 highly skilled workers during each of the two
construction seasons required to complete the project. Beyond the direct payroll for these
workers, there is also the benefit that results from the use of local contractors, suppliers and
businesses as well as the multiplier effects as payroll and vendor dollars circulate in the Borough
economy.
In addition to the local economic benefits, this project will also provide the ongoing benefits of
additional renewable hydroelectric energy for all of Chugach's consumers and the recreational
benefit of an enhanced fish habitat.
I look forward to the completion of the project, and the many years of benefits it will bring.
Sincerely, y G7J
Mike Navarre, Mayor
Kenai Peninsula Borough
