RE: Native Village of Cantwell Jack River Hydro — Feasibility Study
Dear Ms. icklie:
Denali National Park and Preserve (DNP) is on record as supporting continued study of the
micro -hydra that the Native Village of Cantwell (NVC) is proposing to construct on the Jack
River.
Executive Order 13514 encourages Agencies to consider purchasing/ using renewable energy.
Once the NVC hydro project is operational, DNP hopes to purchase some or all of the power
produced, or the equivalent environmental attributes of the project, to the extent authorized
by the Federal Acquisition Regulations.
A reconnaissance study of the river funded by the Native Village and AEA was completed earlier
this year, The report identified several project configurations with generating potential of 1.6
to 7.3 iViW, and annual generation of between 7,500,000 and 37,300,000 kWh. For
comparison, DNP annually consumes an average of 1,080,000 kWh in the Entrance Area of the
Park.
The proposed feasibility study would collect additional site data including additional hydrology,
fisheries, and geotechnical data, to identify a preferred project configuration and feasibility. If
feasible, a hydro project on Jack River would provide environmentally friendly, affordable
energy to the railbelt.
Thank you for your consideration. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely
El od n
