RE: Native Village of Cantwell Jack River Hydro — Feasibility Study
Dear Ms. Fisher -Goad:
Estahpshed 1990
Clay Walker, Mayor
I am writing to support the funding request from the Native Village of Cantwell for a feasibility
study regarding a hydro project on Jack River.
Denali Borough representatives have previously reviewed the project site with personnel from
the Native Village and AEA. At that time, it was generally agreed that Jack River had hydro
power potential. A reconnaissance study of the river funded by the Native Village and AEA was
completed earlier this year. The report identified several project configurations with
generating potential of 1.6 to 7.3 MW.
The proposed feasibility study would collect additional site data including additional hydrology,
fisheries, and geotechnical data, to identify a preferred project configuration and feasibility. If
feasible, a hydro project on Jack River would provide environmentally friendly, affordable
energy to the railbelt.
Thank you for your consideration. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Clay Walker, Mayor
Denali Borough
