Box 800 Craig,Alaska 99921 w ..craigxhools.com Phone (907)826.3274,FAX (%7) 826.3322 a Providing a meaningful, comprehensive, and engaging Resolution 14-02 Whereas, the Board of Education of the Craig City School District realizes that efforts to address energy savings in our school facilities has been an ongoing priority that will help us operate at a much more efficient level and can help us better navigate some of those tougher budgetary times when state and federal funds for Craig City School District are reduced or eliminated, and Whereas, the costs of electricity, diesel, and other energy expenses continue to rise at rates that are not always predictable and have a big impact on our ability to budget and focus on the priorities of the District, and Whereas, the district had recently switched over to a wood burning system at our elementary and middle school that has greatly reduced our energy costs, uses local resources, and has proven easy to maintain, then Be it therefore resolved that the Craig Board of Education hereby approves the application to Alaska Energy Authority for the High School Wood Heat Conversion Project grant through their Renewable Energy Fund and commits $186,850.00 in matching resources as indicated in the application. Be it also resolved that the Craig Board of Education authorizes John J. Walsh, Superintendent of Schools, to sign the grant application, and Greg Head, Maintenance Director, to serve as a point of contact and to represent the District for purposes of this application. Finally, be it resolved that the Craig Board of Education certifies that Craig City School District is in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws including existing credit and federal tax obligations. Signed this 25t" day of September, 2013 in Craig, Alaska Board President Board Mem CITY OF CRAIG RESOLUTION 13-17 SUPPORTING AN APPLICATION TO THE ALASKA ENERGY AUTHORITY FOR FUNDING FOR BIOMASS BOILER SYSTEM FOR THE.CRAIG HIGH SCHOOL UNDER THE ALASKA RENEWABLE ENERGY PROGRAM WHEREAS, the Craig City School District is a municipal school district organized under Alaska Statute to serve the students of the City of Craig; and WHEREAS, the Craig City School District operates the 52,200 square foot Craig High School and currently heats that facility using expensive diesel fuel; and WHEREAS, the Craig City School District currently operates a biomass boiler system to heat the Craig Elementary and Craig Middle Schools; and WHEREAS, the City of Craig is in an area with high fuel costs and an abundance of woody biomass; and WHEREAS, the City of Craig operates a biomass fueled boiler and has an established contract with Viking Lumber to provide biomass fuel; and WHEREAS, a biomass fueled boiler will result in significant cost savings to the Craig City School District and support the goal of renewable energy; and WHEREAS, this project is eligible for funding under the Alaska Renewable Energy Program as administered by the Alaska Energy Authority. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City of Craig hereby supports an application for funding for a biomass fueled boiler system to be installed at the Craig High School using funds from the Alaska Renewable Energy Fund.
