Resolution 14-02
Whereas, the Board of Education of the Craig City School District realizes that efforts to
address energy savings in our school facilities has been an ongoing priority that will help us
operate at a much more efficient level and can help us better navigate some of those tougher
budgetary times when state and federal funds for Craig City School District are reduced or
eliminated, and
Whereas, the costs of electricity, diesel, and other energy expenses continue to rise at rates
that are not always predictable and have a big impact on our ability to budget and focus on the
priorities of the District, and
Whereas, the district had recently switched over to a wood burning system at our elementary
and middle school that has greatly reduced our energy costs, uses local resources, and has
proven easy to maintain, then
Be it therefore resolved that the Craig Board of Education hereby approves the application to
Alaska Energy Authority for the High School Wood Heat Conversion Project grant through their
Renewable Energy Fund and commits $186,850.00 in matching resources as indicated in the
application.
Be it also resolved that the Craig Board of Education authorizes John J. Walsh,
Superintendent of Schools, to sign the grant application, and Greg Head, Maintenance
Director, to serve as a point of contact and to represent the District for purposes of this
application.
Finally, be it resolved that the Craig Board of Education certifies that Craig City School
District is in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws including existing credit
and federal tax obligations.
