RESOLUTION OF THE CITY AND BOROUGH OF JUNEAU, ALASKA
Serial No. 2660
A Resolution Authorizing the Manager to Submit to the Alaska
Energy Authority an Application for a Grant for Partial
Funding of the Design and Construction of a Ground Source
Heat Pump System at the Mendenhall Valley Public Library.
WHEREAS, the energy studies and life-cycle cost analyses performed for other,
similar public facilities demonstrate that significant operational savings could be
gained by use of a ground source heat pump system as compared to conventional oil
or electric heat systems; and
WHEREAS, the Public Works and Facilities Committee, at its regular meeting
on August 26, 2013, recommended the City and Borough apply for an Alaska Energy
Authority Renewable Energy Grant to cover a portion of the ground source heat
pump system cost; and
WHEREAS, the Manager has prepared the grant application, which must be
submitted by September 24, 2013; and
WHEREAS, the City and Borough’s Renewable Energy Grant Request to the
Alaska Energy Authority will be for funding $700,000 of the estimated $875,000 cost
of a ground source heat pump system for the new Mendenhall Valley Public Library.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE CITY AND
BOROUGH OF JUNEAU, ALASKA:
Section 1. That the Assembly hereby authorizes the Manager to submit
an application to the Alaska Energy Authority for a Renewable Energy Grant to
fund $700,000 of the estimated $875,000 cost of a ground source heat pump system
for the new Mendenhall Valley Public Library.
Section 2. That the Engineering Department is established as the agent
for the City and Borough for administration of this project.

Section 3. Effective Date. This resolution shall be effective immediately
upon adoption.
Adopted this 9th day of September, 2013.
