Proposal to the Renewable Energy Fund Program (REFGP)
Dear Ms. Vukich,
On behalf of the Bristol Bay Native Corporation (BBNC), thank you for the work Naknek Electric
Association, Inc. (NEA) is doing to power southwest Alaska, more specifically Naknek, South
Naknek, and King Salmon, for more than 52 years. BBNC, the Alaska Native regional
corporation of Bristol Bay, writes in support of the funding proposal to the state's Renewable
Energy Grant Fund Program Round VII for a $1.94 million investment.
The benefits from this project to the communities are tremendous. NEA has completed a plan to
increase diesel generation efficiency specific to the existing plant that complements the utility's
current work harnessing heat potential, and will increase kWh generation capacity. The project
is located in Naknek, Alaska, and utilizing advanced heat -driven power generation technology,
NEA will have approximately 1 MW available to power new industry with no additional fuel
consumption or air quality compliance costs. Increased sales will improve economy of scale,
help stabilize rates for all consumers, and the opportunity for economic growth is much larger.
Bristol Bay Native Corporation fully supports NEA's grant submission and requests the state's
Renewable Energy Grant Fund Program fully fund this important project. The fund's financial
support for this project would be greatly appreciated and beneficial to the people of the
communities.
Sincerely,
L. Tiel Smith
