Dear Mr. Calfa,
Please accept this letter of support for the "Nenana Collaborative Biomass Heating System
Project" application being submitted by the Nenana City School District in collaboration with
the City of Nenana and the Nenana Native Council.
As the Science teacher at Nenana High school, I recognize this as an incredible educational
opportunity for the students of our town. Nenana High School has an endorsed Science
Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) initiative, that believes in learning through doing. A
biomass project in Nenana would provide numerous first-hand educational moments for the
students as well as the citizens of our town. With an opportunity such as this, and the influence
of the Nenana Student Living Center in our school, children from all over Alaska would be
exposed to all aspects of alternative energy resources.
Aside from the educational benefits for the future adults of Alaska, the current citizens of
Nenana would greatly benefit from the increase in job opportunities. Our town struggles with
employment opportunities and a higher cost of living due to increased oil rates. On behalf of
the Nenana City District School, specifically the Environmental Science class, we strongly
support the notion of alternative energy resources for the planet and our wonderful town.
Please give favorable consideration to Nenana's biomass grant application.
Sincerely,
H is J.H. Yenna and the Environmental Science Stud nts
