BOX 226 TOK, AK 99780 907-883-5151 Fax:907-883-5154 TODD POAGE, SUPERINTENDENT ALASKA GATEWAY SCHOOL DISTRICT RESOLUTION #13-02 AUTHORIZATION TO REQUEST FUNDS FOR "AGSD BIOMASS HEAT LOOP PROJECT" WHEREAS, the Alaska Gateway School District has a shared commitment to the families of its students and to the community of Tok and surrounding region; and WHEREAS, the average price of fuel has risen 12% per year over the past ten years; and WHEREAS, fuel savings could be transferred into the instructional program to directly impact and provide additional opportunities for student learning; and WHEREAS, an extension of the Tok School Biomass Heating Project is needed to serve several community buildings: the Senior Center, Clinic, Volunteer Fire Department, Alaska Department of Forestry, Alaska Department of Transportation, and AGSD School Multi -Purpose Facility, Zamboni Garage; and, WHEREAS, these buildings collectively use the equivalent of 47,300 gallons of fuel oil #1; and WHEREAS, Tok is located in the middle of the Tanana Valley Forest which has available a vast quantity wood fuel for energy usage; and; WHEREAS, the Alaska Gateway School District currently has approximately a two year supply of wood available to use as fuel on location at the Tok School Biomass Facility and is committed to operating and maintaining the wood boiler; and WHEREAS, the Alaska Gateway School District has committed to the matching resources for the project at the match amounts indicated in the grant application; and THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of the Alaska Gateway School District is authorizing the grant application to Alaska Energy Authority's Renewable Energy Fund Round 6 Grant Application for the Alaska Gateway School District (AGSD) Biomass Heat Loop project; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Alaska Gateway School District will collaborate and align efforts with the local utility and others to accommodate the future integration of potential heat loops.
