LOSTOK VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT BOARD OF DIRECTORS PO Box 76 TOK, AK 99780 September 18, 2012 Alaska Gateway School District Box 226 Tok, Alaska 99780 Attn: Superintendent Todd Poage, Re: Support for the AGSD Biomass Heat Loop Project: AEA 13-006 Round 6 Renewable Energy Fund grant application Dear Superintendent Poage, This letter is to express the support of Tok Volunteer Fire Department for Alaska Gateway School District's (AGSD) Biomass Heat Loop Project being submitted to the Alaska Energy Authority. The Tok Volunteer Fire Department provides fire protection for the community of Tok and the surrounding area. The escalating costs of heating fuel needed to keep our engines and equipment operational in extreme weather, makes renewable energy options increasingly attractive to our organization, and because we are volunteer, our funding is extremely limited. We are interested in purchasing the much lower cost heat from this heat loop if it becomes available. We are willing to invest in modifications to our existing building heat infrastructure to connect to the heat loop if it makes good business sense. We support AGSD's application for a grant from AEA to design and build a heat loop originating from the AGSD wood boiler facility. With the funding for facilities such as ours tightening, we recognize the need to adapt our business models, including diversification of energy resources. We are pleased that the proposed project would offer lower and more stable heat energy prices for the future. You are welcome to contact me with any questions. Sincerely, Dave Bergstrom, f Fire Chief, Tok Volunteer Fire Department
