RE: Seward Schools Biomass Heating System Grant Request
Alaska Energy Authority:
This letter is to express formal action taken by the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District
(KPBSD) to commit support for the Seward Schools Biomass Heating Systems project.
The escalating costs of heating fi11el make renewable energy options increasingly attractive to our
school district. KPBSD is interested in the potential for cost savings and cost stability, along with
the economic benefits of using more localized and renewable fuels for heat.
The District supports the application for a grant from Alaska Energy Authority through the
Renewable Energy Fund Round 6 for Phase III, Final Design and Phase IV, Construction of a
biomass heating system.
Kenai Peninsula Bureau School District commits to provide the matching resources for the project
at the match amounts indicated in the application. The District will commit $10,000 in matching
funds from General Fund expend!itures and $37,740 in in-kind contributions.
The District Board has authorized me, Steven Atwater, to commit the organization to the
obligations under the grant.
The point of contact is Dave Jom~s, who is listed in Section 10, under Authorized Signers as point
of contact to represent the applicant for purposes of this application.
The District certifies that it is in c:ompliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, including
existing credit and federal tax obligations and Section 1.18 of the RF A (Applicant Match).
Because the funding for public education is becoming tighter, KPBSD recognizes the need to, when
possible, move away from using non-renewable energy sources. We are pleased that the proposed
project does just this.
