Re: Kenai Peninsula Borough School District
Seward Schools Biomass Heating System Feasibility Study
Alaska Energy Authority,
This letter is to express our support for the Seward Schools Biomass Heating Systems project.
The escalating costs of heabng fuel make renewable energy options hcreashgly attractive,
especially to schools and other public buildings. We are inkrested in'the potential for cost
savings and cost stabii, along with the economic benefits of using more localized and renewable
fuels for heat.
We also feel that this project could set a significant standard for the state of Alaska If remote
native villages could replicate this type of project, it would be a major cost savings for these
communities with limited bial fesources.
RBCA has been encouraging the use of renewable energy systems in the Seward area for years
and we are glad to see that these innovative systems are being considered We also place a high
value on the non-monetary benefits such as national security, balance of trade, economic
development, and rebhhg or creating local jobs.
We support the School District in applying for a grant fiom Alaska Energy Authority through
the Renewable Energy Fund Round V, to conduct a Feasibility Study on the use of biomass
heating systems for the Seward schools.
Sincerely,
Matt Gray
