Dear Alaska Energy Authority:
Please accept this letter of support for the City and Borough of Sitka’s request for grant funding
for the Blue Lake Hydropower expansion project. The group I lead (Sitka Global Warming
Group – www.sitkaglobalwarming.org) is very supportive of this project as a means to increase
available electric power to Sitka while also reducing our use of fossil fuels (and thus our carbon
footprint).
We are very supportive of the efforts our City Electric Department has made to conserve and
increase electricity in Sitka. We have collaborated with them on a number of conservation
fronts, including our “Red-Yellow-Green Light” Power Supply Status program. This program
informs the public about Sitka’s power supply and timing of use/conservation to reduce power
generation using diesel by asking people to conserve during limited water supply times. We are
pleased and proud to work in conjunction with our local power supplier to both conserve and
increase this important commodity.
