HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes2626-Final_Ground_Source_Heat_Pump_Dimond_Park_LibraryPresented by:The Manager Introduced:08/27/2012 Drafted by:J.W.Hartle RESOLUTION OF THE CITY AND BOROUGH OF JUNEAU,ALASKA Serial No.2626 A Resolution Authorizing the Manager to Submit an Application for a Grant From the Alaska Energy Authority for Partial Funding of the Design and Construction of a Ground Source Heat Pump System at the Dimond Park Library. WHEREAS,the City and Borough has placed matching funds for construction of a Dimond Park Library on the temporary 1%sales tax ballot for the October election;and WHEREAS,the energy studies and life-cycle cost analyses performed for other, similar public facilities demonstrate that significant operational savings could be gained by use of a ground source heat pump system as compared to conventional oil or electric heat systems;and WHEREAS,the Manager has prepared a grant application to the Alaska Energy Authority,which must be submitted by September 24,2012;and WHEREAS,the City and Borough's Renewable Energy Grant Request to the Alaska Energy Authority would be for funding $1,080,000 of the estimated $1,350,000 cost of a ground source heat pump system for the library;and WHEREAS,the City and Borough will incur no obligations under the Alaska Energy Authority Grant unless and until voters approve matching funds for the library under the 1%temporary sales tax measure;and WHEREAS,the Public Works and Facilities Committee,at its regular meeting on August 20,2012,recommended adoption of this resolution. Now,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE CITY AND BOROUGH OF JUNEAU,ALASKA: Section 1.That the Assembly hereby authorizes the Manager to submit an application to the Alaska Energy Authority for a Renewable Energy Grant to partially fund the cost of a ground source heat pump system at the Dimond Park Library. Section 2.That the Engineering Department is established as the agent for the City and Borough for administration of this project.
