Dear Mr. Carlson:
NATIONAL PARK SERVICE
Denali National Park & Preserve
Mile 237 Parks Highway
P.O. Box 9
Denali Park, AK 99755
Denali National Park and Preserve (DNP) is on record as supporting the Micro -Hydro project
that the Native Village of Cantwell (NVC) is proposing to construct on the Jack River.
Executive Order 13514 encourages Agencies to consider purchasing/using renewable energy.
Once the NVC Micro -Hydro project comes on line, DNP hopes to purchase some or all of the
power produced to the extent authorized by the Federal Acquisition Regulations.
Annually DNP consumes an average of 1,080,000 KWH in the Entrance Area of the park. DNP
is interested in purchasing this power from the NYC at the "Avoided Cost' rate that Golden
Valley Electric Association (GVEA) pays to other commercial power generators. DNP would
expect to pay GVEA the "Distributed Power" rate to have the power delivered from the NVC
Micro -Hydro to the Entrance Area of the park.
We look forward to doing business with NVC in the years to some.
Sincerely,
Paul R. Anderson
Superintendent
