The Native Village of Cantwell is applying for funding under the Alaska
Energy Authority's Renewable Energy Fund Round IV for a feasibility
study that could determine the potential for a small-scale hydroelectric
generating system in the Jack River in Cantwell.
Golden Valley Electric Association feels such a feasibility study could
fully explore the river's potential and is supporting the Native Village of
Cantwell, which is a member of our electric coop, in its efforts to
secure funding.
GVEA supports renewable energy projects within its service area. In
2005, GVEA's Board adopted a Renewable Energy Pledge calling for 20
percent of GVEA's system peak load to come from renewable energy
by the end of 2014. As such, GVEA believes this application by the
Native Village of Cantwell earns and deserves this coop's full support.
Sincerely,
Todd Hoener
