BOX 2153 SITKA, ALASKA 99835 Rebecca Poulson, Board President (907) 747-3448 www.sitkamaritime.org heritage@sitkamaritime.org September 14th 2010 The Sitka Maritime Heritage Society Inc. leases the property known as the Japonski Island Boathouse from the City and Borough of Sitka for the purpose of rehabilitating the building and grounds and operating as a public, ADA accessible, educational boat haul- out and repair and museum facility. The SMHS has to date replaced the foundation, stabilized and painted the building, and has complete, bid-ready construction documents at the 95% stage of completion, and is raising remaining funds for construction. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2011 with replacement of the roof. The Sitka Maritime Heritage Society, Inc. Board of Directors hereby resolves to supply matching funds of $40,000 for Design and Installation of a Ground Source Heat Pump at the Japonski Island Boathouse, specifically $25,000 for complete lease or conveyance of DNR-owned tidelands, and all permitting, and $15,000 for project management and review. In addition, the SMHS hereby commits to funding all associated costs including: new electrical system; a back-up/supplemental heating system, ventilation, domestic plumbing, and other mechanical systems; an addition to house the mechanical room and an ADA accessible entrance and toilet; new roof; insulation and infiltration barrier; and renewed siding, doors and windows; and ongoing maintenance and operation costs of the Ground Source Heat Pump. In addition, the SMHS hereby commits to making the system accessible to the public, and to install monitoring equipment and to make all efficiency, cost and other data available to the public.
