To whom it may concern.
The Northwest Arctic Borough, has been working closely wi th City of
Kotzebue in many projects , and strongly support the request for fi nanc ia l
assistance, regarding a feasibility study and conceptual design fo r a biomass
based waste heat system. We understand that this system would uti lize paper
and wood "'aste that currem ly fill up the Kotzebue land fi ll.
This burning uni t if implemented, could serve as a model for all our
communities and create an extra energy source to heat the water.loops in ou r
remo te Communities. This will off-set the Diesel fuel that is currently used
for heating the wa ter loop and save the Communities expen d itures.
The project could also provide an add itional job for the position of running
the uni t and separating out the burnable materia ls from the waste.
We recommend that thi s projec t gets fully funded so that our Water systems
and landfill s wou ld work more efficic=m ly.
