IONIA RENEWABLE ENERGY TRAINING CENTER
Alaska Mental Health Trust is applying to the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) Renewable Energy Fund Round III grant program, se eking funding for
equipment purchase and installation of a GARN biomass heating system for the community of Ionia. A combination of grants and private funds has been
raised for the construction of the RETC building. The Ionia Commu nity has provided all the labor as in-kind contribution to the project.
Construction to design, which includes pilings, first and second floors is completed is totals approximately 30% of the build ing at the time of this grant
submission. In addition, Ionia has completed log milling and peeling, lumber milling, walls, floors, roofs, interior and exterior construction, site and project
management. Ionia has received an estimated $484,000 in public and private funding for the project, including a $100,000 gran t from the applicant, Alaska
Mental Health Trust Authority.
