HomeMy WebLinkAboutresolution for AEA Tbay round 4WHEREAS, Southeast Island School District (SISD) strives to minimize overhead
costs, including energy bills, so that more funds may be allocated to educational
programs; and
WHEREAS, funding is available through the Renewable Energy Grant Program and
the Alaska Energy Authority for energy -generating wood or forest based projects
that are low -emission and non toxic; and heat recovery projects; and
WHEREAS, SISD has over thirty years of experience maintaining multiple school
sites, is financially stable, and is compliant with applicable federal, state and local
laws including existing credit and federal tax obligations; and
WHEREAS, the supplemental wood heating system at Thorne Bay School will be an
energy -saving, nontoxic, low emission, efficient system and a model example for
other supplemental wood heating projects in schools around the State of Alaska;
and
WHERERAS, a prior feasibility study for wood heating on Prince of Wales Island will
serve as the reference document for the wood -based supplemental heating project
at Thorne Bay School; and
WHEREAS, Lauren Burch will serve as individual to sign the application, has
authority to commit the organization to the obligations under the grant, and will be
the point of contact, representing the applicant for purposes of the application; and
WHEREAS, SISD will commit to provide the matching resources for projects at the
amounts indicated in application, not to exceed $70,000.00 (a 20% match).
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Southeast Island School District
Board of Education authorizes SISD Administration's requests, through Lauren
Burch, for public funding from the Alaska Energy Authority for the construction of a
supplemental energy efficient, low emissions biomass wood heating system at
Thorne Bay School.
ADOPTED September 14, 2010 at a duly convened meeting of the Southeast Island
School District Board of Education at which a quorum was present and voting.
