Resolution 2008-08
WHEREAS, Southeast Island School District (SISD) strives to minimize overhead
costs, including energy bills, so that more funds may be allocated to educational
programs; and
WHEREAS, funding is available through the Unites States Department of Agriculture
and the Rural Development Community Facilities program for purchasing energy -
efficient biomass wood heating systems for Thorne Bay School and Thome Bay
Gym in Thorne Bay; and
WHEREAS, SISD has over thirty years of experience maintaining multiple school
sites, is financially stable, and is in good standing with respect to its existing credit
and federal tax obligations; and
WHEREAS, the energy -efficient biomass wood heating systems at Thorne Bay
School and Thome Bay Gym will be energy -saving, efficient systems and a model
example for other wood heating projects in schools around the State of Alaska; and
WHEREAS, a prior feasibility study for wood heating on Prince of Wales Island will
serve as reference document for selecting energy -efficient biomass wood heating
systems at the Thome Bay School and Thorne Bay Gym;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Southeast Island School District
Board of Education authorizes the SISD Administration's request, through Lauren
Burch, for public funding from the Unites States Department of Agriculture and the
Rural Development Community Facilities program for energy -efficient biomass wood
heating systems for Thorne Bay School and Thorne Bay Gym.
ADOPTED April 29, 2008 at a duly convened meeting of the Southeast Island
School District Board of Education at which a quorum was present and voting.
