HomeMy WebLinkAbouttbay wood fired boiler support letterTo Whom It May Concern:
We need your help. As of May 7, 2008 the cost of diesel fuel is $4.59 per gallon
for number two fuel oil at the local service station. We are writing this letter to support
the acquisition of funds from the United States Department of Agriculture and the Rural
Development Community Facilities program for purchasing an energy- efficient biomass
wood beating systems for the Theme Bay School and Thorne Bay Gym. The gym and
school are used for both school and community activities. The gym is the largest building
in the community with heat and hot and cold running water.
The community of Thorne Bay is surrounded by the Tongass National Forest and
there is very little private land within the city. Our revenues and future developments are
severely limited by being surrounded by the Tongass. Finding firewood is not a problem
with all the logging that has occurred around Thorne Bay and the cost for firewood would
be much less than the cost for fuel oil. We would like your help and I support replacing
the current fossil fuel heating system with a renewable biomass system which would
provide heat our school and gym.
Our funding sources are very limited as the poverty level for the school district is
very high (above 80%) and the major employer in the area (Thorne Bay Ranger District)
is cutting back. If you provide the funds for switching to an energy efficient biomass
wood heating system at Theme Bay Gym and School will be an energy saving, efficient
system that will help save school district funds. The funds that would be saved by
converting to wood would be used to educate the students. We fully support the
acquisition of funds and the purchase of a wood fired boiler system to reduce heating
costs at our school.
Sincerely,
.Roland
