A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF THORNE BAY,
ALASKA, SUPPORTING THE SOUTHEAST ISLAND SCHOOL DISTRICTS
REQUEST FOR PUBLIC FUNDING FROM THE UNITED STATES
DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND THE RURAL DEVELOPMENT
COMMUNITY FACILITIES PROGRAM FOR ENERGY EFFICIENT BIOMASS
WOOD HEATING SYSTEMS FOR THORNE BAY SCHOOL AND THORNE BAY
GYM
WHEREAS, the City Council is the governing body for the City of Thorne Bay,
Alaska; and
WHEREAS, funding is available through the Unites States Department of
Agriculture and the Rural Development Community Facilities program for
purchasing energy efficient biomass wood heating systems for Thorne Bay School
and Thorne Bay Gym in Thorne Bay; and
WHEREAS, the energy -efficient biomass wood heating systems at Thorne Bay
School and Thorne Bay Gym will be energy -saving, efficient systems and a model
example for other wood heating projects in schools around the State of Alaska;
and
WHEREAS, a prior feasibility study for wood heating on Prince of Wales Island
will serve as reference document for selecting energy -efficient biomass wood
heating systems at the Thorne Bay School and Thorne Bay Gym;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council for the City of
Thorne Bay, Alaska, supports the Southeast Island School Districts request for
public funding from the United States Department of Agriculture and the Rural
Development Community Facilities program for energy -efficient biomass wood
heating systems for Thorne Bay School and Thorne Bay Gym.
