To Whom It May Concern:
As a teacher at Susitna Valley High School, I am very excited about the prospect of a
sustainable heat source with such teachable significance. Upon walking into our
building, one is immediately aware that this is a school with a broader vision. This
school, from its eco-friendly materials to its windows and art, brings the splendor of its
environment indoors. It reminds students that their place on this world matters and is
worth keeping. The Wood Heat and Fuel Wood Project works within and furthers this
core value. Not only can students feel that their selves, their home, and their school are
extensions of each other, the students can benefit directly by the additional land. This
project will allow students to partner with the state’s universities as well as the
Department of Forestry to better learn about their environment and sustainability. The
land will also allow us as teachers to extend our lessons outdoors, from field work and
observation in Biology, to snowshoeing in Physical Education, to nature writing in
English. Supporting the Wood Heat and Fuel Wood Project would, therefore, directly
support our students. It is a beautiful gift.
I thank you so much for the consideration,
Jennifer Keenan
