Post Office Box 1050 Talkeetna, Alaska 99676 To whom this may concern: This letter expresses our support for the proposed Forest Improvement Study Area that is associated with a wood-burning facility for Susitna Valley High School (SVHS). Such a designation would engage SVHS teachers and students in a hands-on forest sustainability/energy project. This proposal appears to be a worthwhile investment in education, providing the students with a real stake in the economic future of the Susitna Valley. Our staff could be available to offer technical assistance and assist with educational opportunities. In Alaska, the State and Private Forestry program is responsible for providing forestry-related assistance to the State and local governments, forest industries, other Forest Service offices and federal agencies, and non-industrial private forest landowners. Another objective is the promotion of sustainability for rural communities. This is accomplished through a variety of programs that provide technical assistance, cooperative agreements and grant funding. We look forward to hearing about the project as it progresses. Our point of contact for this endeavor is Trish Wurtz in our Fairbanks office at (907) 743-9451. Sincerely, CHARLES F.
