Inside Passage Electric Cooperative, Inc.
July 17, 2009
ENTITLED: APPROVAL OF MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
BETWEEN IPEC, SEALASKA CORPORATION, AND THE ALASKA ENERGY
AUTHORITY TO APPLY FOR ARRA GRANT FUNDS TO EXPLORE
GEOTHERMAL ENERGY POTENTIAL AT THE HEAD OF TENAKEE INLET
(SE-3)
WHEREAS, IPEC's 2009 energy plan includes investigation of
geothermal energy potential for the benefit of Hoonah; and
WHEREAS, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)
includes grant funding for geothermal exploration and investigation; and
WHEREAS, the Alaska Energy Authority has committed a staff person to
writing a grant to access the ARRA funds for the purpose of exploring, investigating, and
evaluating the geothermal energy potential at the site at the head of Tenakee Inlet, also
known as SE-3; and
WHEREAS, the grant allows for 100% funding to Alaska Native
Corporation applicants with no match requirement; and
WHEREAS, Sealaska Corporation agreed to be the grant applicant at its
June 26, 2009 board meeting; and
WHEREAS, IPEC legal counsel drafted a memorandum of understanding
between the parties to clarify duties and responsibilities; and
WHEREAS, IPEC management recommends acceptance of the proposed
memorandum of understanding; now, therefore it is
RESOLVED that the Board of Directors of Inside Passage Electric
Cooperative accepts the terms of the memorandum of understanding between the parties
and gives the Chief Executive Officer/General Manager permission to enter into the
agreement.
