The Kachemak Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, known locally as the Kachemak Bay
Research Reserve (KBRR) is pleased to partner with the City of Horner and other grant partners
to explore the tidal power potential of Kachemak Bay, Alaska.
The Kachemak Bay Research Reserve, a state/federal partnership between the National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration and the Alaska Department of Fish & Game — Sport Fish
Division, is poised to provide technical expertise to the project team. As such, we propose to
synthesize available biological data collected by the Kachemak Bay Research Reserve in
previously conducted surveys, and identify biological issues relevant to the potential of bringing
a tidal energy project to the bay. KBRR also proposes to identify potential environmental issues
associated with tidal energy sites and projects, including generating a list of permits likely to be
required if the project is determined to be feasible.
We look forward to moving forward with you on this proposal in the very near future.
Regards,
