RE: KACHEMAK BAY TIDAL ENERGY GRANT
Dear Mr. Wreck;
The Port Graham Village Council supports this multi- con=unity effort to conduct a
Feasibility study of Kachemak bay tidal energy potential and the grant application that
Will be submitted to the Alaska Energy Authority.Uur tribe strongly supports renewable
energy and this will be an opportunity to
Determine the resource potential of the tides near our village. This effort will also
Connect us with other communities living; around kachemak bay. We understand
that tidal energy technology is advancing rapidly, while the tidal circulation flow model
that will be developed under this project may support some of our other environmental
and resource management goals as well.
In collaboration with the technical experts funded under this proposal, Port Graham's
Tribal environmental staff will participate in the data collection efforts to determine tidal
energy potential near Port Graham . Other tribal and community leaders will also be
available to address landownership, existing infrastructure, historical and traditional
knowledge and related issues. We understand that this project will produce a feasibility
study, describing the tidal energy resource potential around Port graham and other
locations, a conceptual design, development costs, possible challenges,
and institutional issues.
