TANK PrROT 400 WOOD ---------------- PELLET-FlRED BOILER PROCESS DESCRIPTION II O1 HEAT SOURCE. II `------------------------ A WOOD PELLET BOILER OF ADVANCED DESIGN WILL PROVIDE BETWEEN 340,000 AND 1.33 MILLION BTU/HOUR OF HEAT TO A PRESSURIZED GLYCOL HYDRONIC LOOP. THE BOILER WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY STOKED FROM A 50-TON SILO LOCATED OUT THE WOOD HEAT BUILDING. THE BOILER HAS AN AUTOMATIC ASH COLLECTION THAT FEEDS INTO A BIN FOR EASY REMOVAL. AIR NOZZLES PERIODICALLY BLOW PARTICULATES OUT OF THE FIRE TUBES TO MINIMIZE MAINTENANCE. A MULTI -CYCLONE AND EXHAUST FAN REMOVE PARTICULATE MATTER OUT OF THE EXHAUST STREAM TO MINIMIZE POLLUTION OUTSIDE. O AIR SEPARATION. AN AIR SEPARATOR ELIMINATES AIR BUBBLES FROM THE HYDRONIC PIPING AND ACTS AS A STRAINER, CATCHING PARTICLES CIRCULATING IN THE HYDRONIC LOOP. O3 CIRCULATING PUMPS. A PRIMARY PUMP CIRCULATES UP TO 170 GPM THROUGH THE HYDRONIC LOOP TO THE HEAT EXCHANGER AT THE SCHOOL. A SECONDARY PUMP SERVES AS A BACKUP. THE PUMPS ARE CONTROLLED BY VARIABLE FREQUENCY DRIVES THAT VARY THE SPEED OF THE PUMPS, BASED UPON RETURN TEMPERATURE BACK TO THE BOILER. ® EXPANSION TANK. EXPANSION TANK ET-1 ACCOMMODATES THE EXPANSION OF THE GLYCOL HEAT TRANSFER FLUID, AS ITS TEMPERATURE RISES AND FALLS. O5 HEAT PIPING BETWEEN BUILDINGS. TWO BURIED AND INSULATED 4-IN PEX PIPES CONNECT THE WOOD PELLET BOILER GLYCOL LOOP TO THE SCHOOL HEAT SYSTEM. © HEAT EXCHANGER. A PLATE AND FRAME HEAT EXCHANGER SERVES TO SEPARATE THE TWO GLYCOL HEATING LOOPS (WOOD -PELLET BOILER GLYCOL LOOP AND SCHOOL HYDRONIC HEATING SYSTEM). THIS IS DONE TO PROTECT THE BUILDING FROM A FAILURE OF THE WOOD PELLET BOILER GLYCOL PIPING THAT COULD DRAIN OUT THE SCHOOL HYDRONIC HEATING PIPING. THE HEAT EXCHANGER TRANSFERS THE HEAT BUT KEEPS THE TWO FLUIDS SEPARATE. THE BUILDING SIDE OF THE HEAT EXCHANGER IS CONNECTED TO THE RETURN SIDE OF THE BUILDING HYDRONIC PIPING THAT FEEDS INTO THE BOILERS. IF THE HEAT TRANSFERRED TO THE BUILDING RETURN SIDE STAYS AT 180F, THEN THE BOILERS WILL NOT COME ON. IF THE TEMPERATURE GOES BELOW 170F, THEN THE BOILERS START UP AUTOMATICALLY. O BUILDING HEATING SYSTEM. THE EXISTING BUILDING HEATING SYSTEM CONSISTS OF THE TWO BUILDING BOILERS (2.1 MILLION BTU EACH), CIRCULATING PUMPS, PIPING, AND BUILDING HEAT LOADS.
