C5. MIXING AND PLACEMENT OF BEARING PAD CONCRETE
• BEARING PAD CONCRETE SHALL BE MIXED TO A PLASTIC CONSISTENCY AND THE SLUMP SHALL NOT
EXCEED 6 INCH SLUMP MEASURED WITH A STANDARD SLUMP CONE. BEARING PAD CONCRETE WITH
EXCESS SLUMP MAY BE REJECTED BY THE ENGINEER. BEARING PAD CONCRETE REJECTED FOR
EXCESSIVE SLUMP SHALL BE IMMEDIATELY DISPOSED AT AN AREA INDICATED BY THE ENGINEER.
• BEARING PAD CONCRETE SHALL BE CONVEYED TO PLACE OF FINAL DEPOSIT BY METHODS THAT WILL
NOT CAUSE SEPARATION OR LOSS OF MATERIAL.
• BEARING PAD CONCRETE SHALL BE DEPOSITED IN OR CLOSE TO ITS FINAL POSITION; SEGREGATION
DUE TO RE -HANDLING OR FLOWING SHALL BE AVOIDED.
• BEARING PAD CONCRETE SHALL BE THOROUGHLY VIBRATED. VIBRATORS SHALL NOT BE HELD
AGAINST EMBEDDED MATERIAL. TOP SURFACES SHALL BE CHAMFERED DURING PLACEMENT.
• BEARING PAD CONCRETE SHALL NOT BE DROPPED AT A DISTANCE OF MORE THAN 3 FEET, AND
SHALL NOT BE DEPOSITED AS A LARGE QUANTITY AT ANY POINT. RUNNING OR WORKING THE
BEARING PAD CONCRETE SHALL NOT BE PERMITTED ALONG THE EDGE OF THE FORMS.
• BEARING PAD CONCRETE SHALL BE THOROUGHLY WORKED AROUND REINFORCEMENT AND EMBEDDED
ITEMS, AND INTO CORNERS OF FORMS BY EFFECTIVE VIBRATION. VIBRATORS SHALL PENETRATE EACH
LAYER AND INTO THE TOP OF THE UNDERLYING LAYER.
• SECURELY ANCHOR EMBEDDED ITEMS AND RESTRAIN THEM FROM FLOTATION OR MOVEMENT DURING
PLACEMENT OF BEARING PAD CONCRETE.
• INSTALL 3" PVC PIPES AROUND ANCHORS AND CAULK TO PREVENT CONCRETE FROM FLOWING INTO
PT ANCHOR HOLES.
• BEARING PAD CONCRETE SHALL NOT BE PLACED UNDERWATER NOR USED TO DISPLACE WATER
EXCEPT AS APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER.

e. ANCHOR BAR SHALL BE PUSHED INTO HOLE WHILE TURNING IT SLIGHTLY TO INSURE
POSITIVE DISTRIBUTION OF ADHESIVE. THE ANCHOR SHALL BE CONFIRMED TO BE FULLY
SEATED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HOLE AND SOME ADHESIVE WILL FLOW FROM THE
TOP OF THE HOLE.
f. TWO -COMPONENT EPDXY ADHESIVE SHALL BE ALLOWED TO CURE FOR TIME SPECIFIED
BY THE ADHESIV MANUFACTURER PRIOR TO APPLYING ANY LOAD.
