Attn: Renewable Energy Fund Grant Program: Shaktoolik Wind Construction Project
Dear Review Panel:
The Alaska Village Electric Cooperative (AVEC) respectfully submits the enclosed
application for grant funds available through the Renewable Energy Fund Grant Program.
The project would involve constructing two wind turbines and installing a control module
adjacent to the power plant in the community.
AVEC proposes to install two Northwind 100 wind turbines and a control module in
Shaktoolik. We expect to save almost 24,000 gallons of diesel fuel per year at Shaktoolik
with these wind turbines. At AVEC's 2008 actual average price of fuel at Shaktoolik of
$4.43/gallon, savings will exceed $104,000 per year. If the price of fuel rises to
$5.50/gallon, the savings will approach $130,000 per year.
AVEC is seeking $2,465,664 from AEA under this proposal AVEC will provide an in -kind
contribution of $10,500 and a cash contribution of $251,796.
Please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Petrie of my staff if you have questions.
Sincerely,
Meera Kohler
President and CEO
