Dear Mr. White,
Please find the attached grant application to study the feasibility of utilizing biomass to
heat the Sitka Community Hospital and the proposed Sitka Community Greenhouse.
The Southeast Alaska Wood Energy Workshop was held in Sitka last week. At the
workshop we saw examples of other Southeast communities thot Me successfully using
biomass burners to hL'elt tlwir city facilities. Also dt the workshop our Electric Utility
Director Charlie Walls was able to connect project organizers with a qualified engineer
who agreed to take on the project.
We apologize for the last minute nature of these deve]oprnents, but the opportunity to
lay the ground work for this project was too important for us to pass up. However, the
final approvclls for submitting this application are not i:.waiJable at this time. The
Hospital Board of Directors is scheduled to votl) on this project on November 20 th The•
City and Borough of Sitkll Assembly ""ill then have a formal vote in December. We will
communicllte the outcomes of thesl' votes as soon as they arc completed.
