Dear Jill:
As a professional in the hotel and restaurant industry for 30+ years working with a wide
range of organizations from five star hotels to remote lodges, I write this letter to offer
my support for the Hydro Plant Project at Hatcher Pass.
The Motherlode Lodge power and heating usage is currently solely dependent on diesel
fuel due to the lack of other public service options offered at Hatcher Pass. The cost is
estimated above $80, annually and generator maintenance estimated cost of $5, 000.
These costs do not include any uncertainties that accompany the management of diesel
generators. The important factor in the cost of powering and heating the Motherlode
Lodge is commonsense; the business will have to generate enough income to survive the
increase in fuel cost and the economy crunch that all small businesses are faced with
today.
Embraced by the Talkeetna Mountains, the Motherlode serves more than a cozy place to
spend a weekend skiing, hiking, snow machining and all other sports for outdoor
activities. As the operator of the lodge for the past year and a half I can share many
stories from rescuing loved pets to saving lives of those who take that extra risk across
the pass in mid winter, one who forgot to leave behind a hiking plan or a frantic parent
who’s car breaks down at two in the morning with children under the age of four.
Jill, your foresight of the Hydro Plant is unfolding before our eyes not only will the
Motherlode experience some financial relief; it will be able to continue to offer shelter
and a place for visitors to Hatcher Pass in the need of safety services. Moreover, the plant
offers a revolutionary environmentally safe energy process.
I am grateful for this opportunity, and so pleased that the Hydro Plant is entering the
beginning stages of your vision; I look forward with great excitement to the final phase.
If I may further assist you in your efforts, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Carol Hart, President
InSight Services & Operator of the Motherlode Lodge
