Dear Ms. Reese:
Please accept this letter as our support for the plans to construct a 50 kw run
of river hydroelectric project on Delia Creek. The purpose of the project, as I
understand, is to displace the present diesel fueled electrical generation plant
with the Delia Creek project which will provide electricity to the Motherlode
Lodge and reduce the overall cost of producing power significantly.
Other benefits the hydropower project will prOVide include bringing electrical
power to the State Parks for lighting their parking lot and buildings
associated with park operations. In addition, the proposed project would
provide reliable power for communications which serves as a
life/health/safety issue for the area.
The project, as designed, will cause trail systems to be accessed and increase
recreation for hikers and skiers.
Another benefit that is very important to the City of Palmer as well as the
state of Alaska is the educational opportunities that will be developed
concerning alternative power and the history of hydro in the Hatcher Pass
area.
An objective of Palmer, in terms of economic development, is to establish
Palmer as the "gateway" to the Hatcher Pass recreation area which will
create more economic activity for the Mat-Su Valley. This project will be of
great assistance to providing comfort and conveniences to the traveling
public.
We support your application for the Renewable Energy Grant through the
Alaska Energy Authority (AEA).
In the event you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
